Flowers for the teacher

Happy Monday, everyone!

It’s here! The start of a new school year for many of us (including me!). Hope this year is off to a wonderful start!

This was a fun weekend outfit..I love this beautiful little sundress and have gotten lots of wear out of it this summer. A denim vest is such a great layering piece for all kinds of casual looks, and I love how it turns this dress into a fun outfit.

I also love me a good fedora! 😉 I’ve had three over the last few years. The first was left in a London hotel room in a 4 a.m. dash to the airport. The second was unfortunately taken last summer when our car was broken into. This lovely little hat survived an ocean dunking at Myrtle Beach this summer, but it’s still going strong. I feel like wearing a hat automatically gives any outfit a little more flare, and gives me a cool edge I don’t normally feel!

Cream of the crop

I’m loving cream on cream–or winter white, as it’s sometimes called–for this fall. I’ve always loved this color for myself more than stark white, and it feels luxurious wearing it head-to-toe. This was a work look for me that I think would be beautiful for many work environments or special occasions such as lunches, presentations or even thinking ahead to the holidays. These pants are some of the most comfortable pants I’ve ever owned–stretchy and soft while holding their shape. I’m seeing them in more colors in my future…

Chambray shirtdress

The chambray shirtdress is everywhere this year. This isn’t the denim dress of the 90s though. This version is soft, relaxed and oh-so-comfortable! It’s great with flat sandals and slides, or wedges like I wore today.  It’s the perfect summer dress for work or a weekend day running errands or heading to the farmer’s market.

In other news, it has FINALLY cooled off here in North Carolina, and I couldn’t be happier! One of my favorite things about living in NC is that there are four distinct seasons, and summer is warm and fun without feeling like you’re about to have a heat stroke when you walk out the door. This summer was an exception though…it almost felt like Texas some weeks. Until my mother told me it was 105 degrees in my hometown yesterday. Maybe 98 isn’t so bad after all…

Dress- Loft (no longer online, another option here)

Wedges- Target  (I love these wedges. They’re high but surprisingly comfortable and a perfect summer shoe. I have them in white and black and have worn them all summer.)

Watercolor style

I fell in love with this print when I saw it in a maxidress on Kendi Everyday. When I went into the store, the maxidress didn’t fit me that well, but then I discovered the romper. Rompers are another trend I didn’t expect to get into, but am loving this summer! They’re just so fun and easy. This beauty can be dressed down with wedges and a denim jacket or dressed up with heels for a night out. Gorgeous…one of my favorite pieces in my closet.

Printed shorts

I never used to be a shorts person. I’m still a little self-conscious about my legs, but I have found some shorts I am mildy obsessed with…printed shorts! They are so comfy! They feel like pajamas and they are just so cute and versatile. I’ve already worn these several ways, including when we were at the beach a few weeks ago…ooh that makes me want to dig my toes in the sand.
